Rasam Tandoori Indian Restaurant & Takeaway in Moreleta Park, Pretoria, is a vibrant culinary gem that brilliantly captures the essence of authentic Indian cuisine, with a special nod to the beloved flavors of Natal. Nestled at the corner of Garsfontein and Rubenstein Drive, this restaurant offers a sensory journey through India’s rich food traditions, delivering both a welcoming dining atmosphere and generous portions that truly satisfy.
Step inside and you’ll immediately notice the warm, inviting ambiance—perfect for a casual lunch or a relaxed dinner with friends and family. The friendly staff add a personal touch, making every visit feel special and well taken care of. Whether you choose to dine in or opt for takeaway, Rasam Tandoori ensures your experience is seamless and memorable.
The star of the menu is unquestionably the butter chicken, praised repeatedly for its rich, creamy sauce and tender, flavorful chicken pieces. Coupled with their garlic naan, which bursts with aromatic garlic and a soft, pillowy texture, these dishes invite you into a symphony of tastes that balance spice, creaminess, and comfort. The chicken tandoori is another highlight, delivering a smoky, spicy punch that hits just the right notes, especially when paired with freshly baked breads.
For those craving a true taste of Durban-style Indian dishes, the beef bunny chow and beef karahi stand out. According to longtime patrons like Sean from the review by SAVVY REAL WEALTH, Rasam Tandoori has brought the authentic flavors of Natal closer to Pretoria, with generous portions and meat that is incredibly tender and satisfying. The bunnies are crafted with care, ensuring each bite is packed with a delicious and hearty curry that showcases excellent balance and depth of flavor.
Portion sizes here are impressively generous—often large enough to share—which speaks to Rasam Tandoori’s commitment to value without compromising quality. Joshua’s experience perfectly captures this sentiment, noting how he often goes home with extra food because the servings are so plentiful. The atmosphere adds to the experience by being calm and relaxing, making every meal something to look forward to.
Special touches like complimentary sides—such as the divine potatoes mentioned by Wadalisa Oratile Molokwe—add to the authentic hospitality. And that personal attention extends to the management, who don’t hesitate to go above and beyond, as Charmaine Gerber shared when the manager kindly prepared a Bombay Crush, a refreshing beverage not listed on the menu.
While the vast majority of feedback echoes satisfaction, some diners have offered constructive notes—like Kayise Maseko who found the cardamom pods in the basmati rice a little intrusive and suggested improvements for the butter roti. This honest feedback illustrates Rasam Tandoori’s ongoing readiness to refine and elevate their offerings, a promising sign of a restaurant driven by a passion for excellence and guest satisfaction.
In essence, Rasam Tandoori Indian Restaurant & Takeaway is more than just a place to eat—it’s a flavorful exploration of India’s diverse culinary landscape brought to life with care, authenticity, and a touch of South African warmth. From robust curries to expertly grilled tandoori dishes and freshly baked breads, their menu promises an unforgettable dining experience that keeps locals coming back for more.

If you want really good Indian food we recommend .Had lunch there today. Food, service and general atmosphere was awesome. Manager even made me a Bombay Crush, despite it not being on the menu. Portion size is big enough to feed two persons. Truly a memorable experience, will be returning in the future!

I’m originally from Durban. I have been in PTA for 2 years and didn’t know of any good Indian restaurants. Their Chicken Tandoori and butter naan was on point. Very tasty! Just a suggestion as a Durbanite, you’ll need to get an EXTRA EXTRA HOT version.

I bought takeaways and the taste of the beef karahi was OK and the portions reasonable. What I did not like was having cardamom pods in the basmati rice as well. Now I had to spend my time picking them out before my meal. As for the butter roti I would rate it 3 out of 10, as it seemed like the butter was just smeared on the surface.
